100 Days, 1,000,000 Lives Lost to Genocide
Imagine the population in Columbus, Ohio disappearing in less than four months. It happened in 1994 in Rwanda, leaving behind a nation of desperate widows and a generation of grieving orphans. Now imagine God responding to the cries of a people by bringing hope and healing. It’s now the story of God’s kingdom in Rwanda, and we’re here to join in.
Pray for Rwanda
God is at work in Rwanda, giving Rwandans hope and bringing healing to their nation. Still, Rwandans need our prayers, and we invite you to join us in praying for Rwanda.
Please pray for the slain, the killers and the survivors. Pray the reconciliation process continues unhampered. Pray that the hope that these people carry strengthens and overcomes the shadow of death.
You can’t glaze over the story of Rwanda’s genocide. The effects of those 100 days in 1994 left Rwanda maimed and heartsick. AIDS was wielded as a weapon as women across the country were raped. Poverty and hunger shot up like weeds with the deepest roots.
Yet Jesus spoke about people like this. He called them blessed. In Matthew 5, Jesus said that the poor in spirit are blessed, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. He said that those who mourn are blessed, for they will be conforted. He called the meek blessed, for they will inherit the earth.
That’s good news that is deeper than the most-firmly planted affliction, and that’s the reason for God’s Kingdom Keys.
Rwandans are a people who carry hope in their hearts, and they value the time we spend traveling to the country and working with them. They crave our comfort and concern. Our call is to wipe away the tears of Rwanda’s orphans and widows. That’s a huge task, so we’re doing it the best way we can—we’re following God’s lead. He calls. We answer with obedience. Then we see him open doors and give opportunities that we never would have gained on our own.
