Hope Village is a haven for orphans that have been rescued from the streets of Rwanda. The oldest child of a family unit of children is set up as the head of the household. These children love and care for two or three younger children under their roof. They are challenged with attending school and raising crops to feed their families. Sometimes there is food left over to sell at the market for a profit. Usually, there is not.
In 2006 we first met the children of Hope Village and fell in love with them. They have touched our lives and we constantly hold them in our prayers.
We have come alongside them to help where we can. A Community Center is being erected on the property to offer them a future stream of income. Meanwhile, we are there to help by providing food, medication, and vitamins to heal and to strengthen them. We hope to repeat this model in other child-headed household villages.
